Sara McCallum Named One of the 125 Women to Know in the Ambulatory Surgery Center Industry.

(Sheboygan, Wis. October 17, 2011) Becker’s ASC REVIEW: Practical Business, Legal and Clinical Guidance for Ambulatory Surgery Centers recently listed Sara McCallum, RN, MBA, CASC, Administrative Director, Sheboygan Surgery Center as one of the 125 Women to know in the ACS industry. The profiles of the 125 women leaders in the ambulatory surgery center industry were listed in the September/October 2011 issue.
McCallum is the administrative director of the Center, a multi-specialty surgery, endoscopy, and pain management facility. She has been actively involved in the ambulatory surgery center industry for many years and worked in all phases of perioperative nursing prior to obtaining her MBA from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
She has been involved in the opening of seven surgery centers – from construction to operations – serving in a in a variety of roles including executive director, director, risk manager, and staff nurse. She was the administrator at five of the centers.
At the Sheboygan Surgery Center, McCallum and her staff have implemented what she terms, “a great Performance Improvement Program and have developed a team philosophy that promises to ‘exceed the expectations of our patients.” With these programs in place, McCallum credits her excellent staff with making the Center a great place to work. “One of the best parts of my job is empowering and mentoring my staff,” she said.
McCallum has a bright vision for Sheboygan Surgery Center. “I expect our Center to continue to grow, to be an example of how healthcare should be delivered and to be the best possible place for our patients to be cared for. I want it to become a place for physicians to work, provide quality, efficient care, and a place where our staff can grow and love what they do – every day.”
Presently McCallum serves on the Association of Wisconsin Surgery Centers (WISCA) as its legislative chairperson.
